Family‑Based Care
At Refugio Seguro, we believe that every child deserves the safety, love, and stability of a family. Our Family‑Based Care program is designed to protect and empower children who are most at risk; especially those with parents who have been impacted by the justice system or living with mental health challenges.
Children thrive best in safe, nurturing family environments. Yet too often, vulnerable children face stigma, neglect, or separation when their caregivers are incarcerated or struggling with mental health conditions. Without intervention, these children are at greater risk of trauma, exploitation, institutionalization and cycles of poverty.
Through a trauma‑informed, holistic approach, Refugio Seguro works to safeguard children by providing:
Alternative Care
Safe family placements in kinship care, foster care, and adoption that put the child’s best interests first.
Caregiver Empowerment
Training and psychosocial support for parents and guardians, equipping them to provide stable, nurturing homes.
Child Protection Advocacy
We collaborate with a diverse network of partners, including social welfare offices, correctional institutions, health directorates, schools, educational institutions, and community-based organizations, to advance trauma-informed child protection advocacy. Together, we amplify survivor-centered voices, strengthen systems of care, and mobilize cross-sectoral action to safeguard vulnerable children and justice-involved youth.
